'Suspicious' Man Went Through Resident's Truck, Cops Say

Police investigating Maxim Drive incident.

Hopatcong police are investigating a man allegedly rifling through a Maxim Drive resident's truck around 1 a.m. on Sunday. According to Lt. Thomas Kmetz, the "suspicious activity" occurred when a resident woke up to his exterior motion light turning on. The resident did not look out the window as he thought an animal may have caused the light to go on, Kmetz said, but when he watched surveillance footage the next day from his security camera, he saw a man wearing dark pants, a grey sweatshirt and white sneakers near his truck. Kmetz said the truck was locked, but the man appeared to be trying to access one of the utility boxes on the truck. Nothing was taken from the truck. Underage Drunk Woman Crashed Car, Police Say

Hopatcong authorities said they were notified by a Stanhope officer.

A 20-year-old Hamburg resident was charged with multiple counts, including DWI, after the car she was driving crashed on Maxim Drive, Hopatcong police said. According to police, a Stanhope officer was alerted to an accident on Sparta Road while he was on duty. When he checked the area, he found a vehicle had crashed at the embankment of the hairpin curve on Maxim Drive, police said. The Stanhope officer then notified Hopatcong police. Police said after they arrived the driver, Amanda Wise, told them she was 20 years old and had been drinking. She failed field sobriety tests, according to police.  Police said Wise was taken to headquarters and was given an alcohol test.
