Resident also faces DWI charges.
A Sparta woman has been charged with threatening her neighbor's life in a drunken rage, police said. Kelly Vasile, 35, of White Deer Plaza was drunk and "extremely agitated" when officers arrived at her apartment at 11:39 p.m. April 22 after she kicked in her neighbor's front door and threatened to kill her, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. The neighbor told police the damage and threat came during an argument. Vasile was charged with terroristic threats and criminal mischief. The April 22 arrest was her third in a month, Beebe said. Vasile also faces DWI charges for arrests on March 23 and March 25.
Matthew Collins was treated for head injury, charged with disorderly conduct.
A Newton resident was charged with disorderly conduct after police said he started a fight at the Sparta Bowling Lanes that left him unconscious. Matthew Collins, 19, of Newton was "highly intoxicated" when he arrived at the Lanes April 12 with a group of friends, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. Collins was generally disruptive and bothering other patrons, including a 17-year-old resident of Franklin who he slapped in the face without provocation, Beebe said. The Franklin teen threw a punch in self-defense, knocking Collins to the floor unconscious. The Newton man was taken to Newton Medical Center with a head injury. He was later charged with disorderly conduct. The 17-year-old Franklin resident was not charged, Beebe said.

Sparta man also facing robbery, theft charges out of Bergen County.
An accused burglar is facing additional criminal charges after Sparta police said he assaulted officers after a road chase through the township. Mark A. Cordero, 24, of Sparta was arrested Tuesday after police said he drove recklessly through the township and resisted officers attempts to take him into custody, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. The arrest comes just five days after he was charged with burglarizing a Whispering Woods Lane home while a mother and three children were present. Police responded to a 911 call at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday that requested help in dealing with Cordero, who had left home "highly agitated" and threatening suicide, Beebe said. Motorist cited for careless driving after incident on Sawmill Road.
Two Sussex County suffered only minor injuries after crawling from a car that flipped twice. Andrew S. Celeste, 22, of Sparta was cited for careless driving after a one-vehicle accident on Sawmill Road Monday afternoon, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. Celeste was driving his 2001 Toyota Camry with passenger Jeffrey C. Ryan, 25, of Lafayette and lost control as he rounded a turn, Beebe said. Celeste tried to regain control but overcompensated and left the roadway, hitting an embankment, Beebe said. The Camry rolled over twice before coming to rest on its roof. Celeste and Ryan were able to crawl out of the car on their own power. They were transported to Newton Medical Center where they were treated for minor scrapes and bruises, Beebe said. The…

Sparta resident charged with harassing wildlife.
A Sparta teen chased swans, ducks and geese with his dirt bike Friday, unlawfully harassing wildlife, Sparta Township police Capt. John-Paul Beebe said. Police responded to Seneca Lake at 4:17 p.m. after receiving reports of a lone rider creating a problem on the beach and dam, Beebe said. When police arrived, they found Justin Giulini, 18, riding a dirt bike without a helmet, Beebe said. At first, the teen told officers he was 17 years old, and questioned police as to why there were two present, stating, “This is a waste of time,” Beebe said. Fox Trail blaze house 'gutted' by fast-moving fire Thursday night; neighbors report hearing 'explosion,' police said.
One woman was severely injured, with burns to her head, face and arms, as a result of a "suspicious" house fire Thursday night, requiring helicopter transportation to Morristown Medical Center, Sparta Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. The interior of a Fox Trail home was gutted by a quick-moving fire, Beebe said. By the time rescue workers responded to the scene, just after 7 p.m., the home was completely engulfed in flames, Beebe said. It took approximately 30 minutes for the fire to be knocked down. Upon arrival, Lindsay Kiensicki, 26, was standing at the end of the driveway and badly burned on her head, face and torso, Beebe said. Sparta police arrest trio on Route 15 south on Friday.
A couple from Tobyhanna, Pa., and a Florida man were arrested Friday afternoon on charges of heroin possession and other violations after they were stopped for allegedly not wearing seatbelts and having a cracked windshield, Sparta police said. According to the police report, Sparta Cpl. Marc Rubino was on routine patrol traveling along Route 15 south at 2:38 p.m. when he allegedly observed a northbound red Dodge Durango with a large crack in the vehicle's windshield. The police report said Rubino began to follow the vehicle to observe its operation, when he said he saw that the male driver and front seat passenger were not wearing their seatbelts. Sparta resident hits four objects on same street he lives on, police report.
An allegedly drunk Sparta resident was not injured after his car struck four different objects before overturning on a neighbor's front lawn, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. John Assaro, 49, was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to maintain a single lane of travel. Assaro was traveling south on Hickory Trail when he lost control of the car, leaving the roadway and striking a stone wall, then a fence, glancing off an evergreen tree and ultimately striking a large boulder, forcing the car to flip over, Beebe said. When police arrived at the scene just before midnight on Friday, officers found Assaro to be under the influence of alcohol, Beebe said. Sparta High School senior allegedly had $4,450, drugs and a 13-inch knife on school property.
An 18-year-old Sparta High School student was arrested Thursday for allegedly selling drugs and having a knife on school property, police said. School officials searched a car driven by senior Eric Roberts when he arrived at the school at about 11 a.m. Thursday. He was found to have a 13-inch butterfly knife, $4,450 in cash and marijuana divided in separate Ziploc bags, allegedly for distribution, according to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe. Roberts was charged with distribution of narcotics on school property, possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon on school property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance later that day and is scheduled to appear in municipal court on Thursday, Jan. 31.

New York woman left the scene of an accident and was found driving nude, cops report.
A New York woman was arrested after police found her driving naked, drunk and not remembering she just left the scene of an accident, Sparta Police Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. Catherine Giaquinto, 36, of Warwick, N.Y., was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath test, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, failure to wear a seat belt and a documentation violation. Police received a call from a Lake Mohawk resident who said a driver had crashed into the a stone retaining wall on the property and subsequently fled the scene shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, Beebe said.
