Franklin man arrested Monday morning for having illegal prescription drugs, police report.

A Franklin man allegedly searching for cigarette butts was arrested for possession of prescription drugs, Hopatcong police reported. Kye Johnson, 38, was found leaning against the front door of St. Jude’s Church at 12:57 a.m. Monday with a flashlight, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said. When Johnson spoke with Officer David Kraus, he told the patrolman he was searching for cigarette butts in the ashtrays, Kmetz said. Johnson told Kraus he was not from the area and was watching a friend’s house, Kmetz said. For his own safety, Kraus patted down Johnson, who admitted he had drugs in his pocket, Kmetz said. Kraus then found morphine and oxycodone pills, Kmetz said. A search also found Johnson had a $500 outstanding warrant from Franklin, Kmetz said. …

I'm moving to Hopatcong from Ohio, 21 years sober. If the meeting times and places are kept as some big secret, how am I, and others, supposed to find them? Posting the "where and when" does not violate any tradition, nor does it "promote" our program. . There are many local newspapers all over the United States that publish the where and when of open meetings. It's a group conscience decision …   more ›

VIDEO: The History of St. Jude's Church

Hopatcong's Catholic parish gets the record-books treatment from borough resident Rob Bond.

St. Jude's Church in Hopatcong celebrated its 50th annniversary in 2008. The Catholic parish has seen a lot, watching the borough explode as a summer resort destination to a quiet suburban community with rural features. Hopatcong resident Rob Bond wanted to commemorate the occasion. So he created a 36-minute video detailing the history of the church, now led by Rev. George Gothie. Check it out and tell us what you think in the comments.

I remember when the church was being built. In the process church was held at the camp by the lake, then moved to a tent on the property that now is the church. I guess if you really want to go to church it doesn;t matter what kind of structure your in it's still considered the house of God.   more ›

The coats will also be available to borough families. The group will collect coats until Dec. 31, when they will be donated to Sussex District of Patriots Path Council. "We decided before we donate our coats collected to Sussex District we will let folks in town take a look at collection and first try to help families right here in town," Donna Strong said. Pack 194 will accept new and used coats. If you can't make the meeting and you'd like to donate or browse the collection, email denleaders@hopatcongpack194.org.
