JCP&L Hearing, Hopatcong Council Meets This Week

A look at what's going on this week in Hopatcong and Sparta.

The BPU will hold a public hearing at Hopatcong Middle School on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. for residents to express comments and concerns about the loss of power in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The borough council will next meet on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The Hopatcong Board of Education will have their next meeting on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Check back this week to see what was discussed at the meeting. The high school recently launched its new online newspaper, The Arrow, last week. We talk to some teachers and students involved about how the idea came about. IHOP in Kenvil will host a Family Night on Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. to benefit Hopatcong High School Project Graduation. There's a number of holiday …

Sparta BOE, Council Meet, Holiday House Decorating Contest This Week

A look at what to expect this week in Hopatcong and Sparta.

The Sparta Township Board of Education will have their next meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at the Mohawk Avenue School auditorium. Stay with us this week as we provide updates from the meeting. The town council will next convene on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sparta Municipal Builidng. We'll keep you posted on what was discussed at this week's meeting. The borough is holding its annual Holiday House Decorating Contest this week. Residents have until Wednesday to enter by submitting a form that can be found in the Municipal Building. Judging will take place on Friday at 6:30 p.m. where the top three homes will be selected. Students at both Hopatcong High School and the middle school will perform in their holiday concerts on Thursday at 7 p.m.  …

Hopatcong Council Meets, Sparta Football in State Final This Week

Several holiday events also planned for this week in Hopatcong and Sparta.

The Hopatcong Borough Council will have their next meeting on Wesneday at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building. We'll keep you posted about what went on at this week's meeting. The Sparta High School football team will face Ramapo High School on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Kean University for state championship. The Spartans, now 9-1, defeated River Dell High School Friday in semifinals. The borough will hold a Menorah Lighting ceromony at the Municipal Building at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, and will later have the Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided at the event.  The "A Night of Hope" benefit concert will be held on Friday at the Hopatcong High School auditorium at 7 p.m. The concert will help local families …

Sandy Benefit at Pavinci's, Make-Up Days to be Set

A look at what's going on this week in Hopatcong and Sparta and what you can expect to see on Patch.

The Sparta BOE will meet Monday night and vote on how to make up the lost school days from Hurricane Sandy. The meeting will be held at the Mohawk Avenue School at 7 p.m. Pavinci's Italian Grill will be hosting Hurricane Sandy: We Hit Harder to benefit three families of Hopatcong whose homes were destroyed from Superstorm Sandy. The event will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and will include give-aways, raffles, live and silent auctions, a Sweet Sandy Dessert Contest, and more. Hopatcong BOE Meets, Sparta's Annual Turkey Trot This Week

Schools will also be closed for Thanksgiving this week.

The Hopatcong Board of Education will meet for the first time since Hurricane Sandy on Monday at 7:30 p.m. We'll keep you posted about what was discussed at the latest meeting. The Sparta Education Foundation will host its 6th annual Turkey Trot on the morning of Thanksgiving. The "trot" will include a 5K and a 1-mile fun run in Lake Mohawk that will raise money for Sparta schools. All Hopatcong and Sparta schools will have an early dismissal on Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. The Sparta Education Foundation partnered with the new phone application Trellis to raise money for township schools. On Monday and Tuesday, there will be two "dine out" dates for residents to order meals from local restaurants …

Anti-Bullying Presentation at Sparta, Halloween Parade This Week

A look at what's going on this week in Hopatcong and Sparta.

There will be an anti-bullying presentation for parents on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Sparta High School's auditorium. Check back this week with more news about the event. The Halloween Munchkin March Costume Parade & Trunk or Treat event will be held Friday. The Trunk or Treat will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Memorial/Ungerman Complex Parking Lot, and the costume parade will begin at 6 p.m. on the Memorial Football Field. Prizes will be awarded to the top costumes. The Hopatcong Pound Project will hold their next fundraiser at Pavinci's on Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be a band performing at 9:30 p.m., with other activities and door prizes. All money raised will go to help out local animals at the pound. The town council will meet …

Halloween Parade, Sparta Turf Plan Up for Vote This Week

Here's a look at some events going on this week and what you can expect to see on Patch.

The annual costume parade at Hudson Maxim School will be on Sunday at noon. Sponsored by the Business League and Hopatcong Borough, there will be a costume contest, food and rides at Modick Park afterward from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The Sparta Board of Education is holding a special meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Mohawk Avenue School auditorium to discuss the final plans for the $3.25 million multi-purpose field. If approved, the community will then vote on the plans in December's referendum. The Hopatcong Board of Education is also meeting on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Board of Education Meeting Room of the Administration Building at Windsor Avenue. Sparta Council Meets, Annual Car Show This Week

Sparta Township Council's next meeting is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building. We'll keep you updated about what was discussed at the meeting this week. St. Jude's Parish in Hopatcong is hosting its 4th annual KOC Car, Bike and Craft show on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature classic cars, motorocycles, and crafts. Admission is free and there will be trophies for the top-10 cars and best motorcycles.
