What Should Go Here? Empty Medical Office

Everybody has opinions. Patch is the place to share them.

The building sits unoccupied on West River Styx Road. No, it's not Feuerstein's Tavern. It doesn't advertise a reopening. A lock hangs from its red door and its blinds are down. It was once the Hopatcong Medical Office run by William Cobb. But Cobb had his medical license suspended for four years in February 2011 for "failing to undergo a neuropsychological evaluation and for failing to provide a timely response to a subpoena for patient records," according to a final consent order of New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. Michael - I recently had an appraisal done on my home for the purposes of a refinance. My appraisal came in approximately 23% below the value the borough has it assessed at for tax purposes. Is your comment indicating that I merely need to go to the borough tax assessor and request a reduction based on my appraisal? That sounds too simple. I thought you had to file an application through Sussex …   more ›

What Should Go Here? Open Spot Near Modick

The Hopatcong business location has seen two businesses close since November 2010.

In January, Thyme Out! closed indefinitely. Now a "for sale" sign hangs on the railing outside its door. At the time, two of Tyme Out!'s four owners said the restaurant was closing for "business reasons." It was a vauge, yet somewhat familiar explanation. Parkside Coffee & Grill, which operated the location for about a decade, shut down due to similar reasons in November 2010. But what do you think would save the location? What would fit best at the place near Modick Park? Another restaurant? A convenience store? A small retail shop? Share your thoughts in the comments. Click here to see what Patch readers believed should take over at the emtpy Feuerstein's Tavern and here for what should go at the empty Tidal Wave.

Hopatcong: What Should Go Here?

The Tidal Wave had its last bash on Thanksgiving Eve 2009. What should come next? Or should the once-hoppin' borough bar return?

The building sits empty overlooking Lake Hopatcong. Just a few years ago the Tidal Wave was one of Hopatcong's busiest night spots, a bar with outside dining just across the bridge of New Jersey's biggest man-made lake. Then it held its last big bash on Thanksgiving Eve in 2009. Now it's future is in limbo. Will it reopen? Will it be sold? At this point, it's anybody's guess. But what do you think should go here? Would you want another restaurant? A bar? A different type of business? What does Hopatcong need most, and could this property address it? Tell us in the comments.
