Rockaway man charged with running marijuana production facility after he called police to report finding his wife dead in their home.
A Rockaway Township man was charged with maintaining a drug production facility Tuesday when he called police to his Sanders Road home after finding his wife dead inside, authorities said. The cause of death of Donna Kent, 56, was under investigation Wednesday, but Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said an autopsy showed no indication of foul play. When police arrived at the house -- spurred by a 911 call from the woman's husband -- they smelled marijuana and applied for a search warrant, Knapp said in a release. Police found 30 pot plants in the house, Knapp said, some of which were hidden behind false walls. Also, $10,000 cash, a handgun and two shotguns were found in the home, Knapp said. A 21-year-old Landing man brought pot on the roof of a Hopatcong elementary school, police said. Officers investigated a report of people on the Tulsa Trail School roof Friday, police said. When they arrived, they found Robert Bitondo, Deane Faatz, 18, and two juveniles, police said. Bitondo had the odor of burned marijuana on him, police said. Officer Thomas Snyder went atop the roof and discovered a a homemade pipe and a small plastic bag containing marijuana, police said. Bitondo admitted it was his and that he ditched it when he saw cops, police said. An officer found pot in a man's car, but the passenger said the drugs were his, police said. Officer David Kraus stopped a vehicle for going over the double yellow lines on Saturday, police said. The smell of raw marijuana emanated from the car, police said. Kraus' investigation revealed two small bags of pot in the vehicle's center console, police said. After the driver denied ownership of the drugs, Anthony D'Alesandro, 34, of Elizabeth, said the pot was his, police said. D'Alesandro also had two smoking devices used to smoke pot in his pants' pocket, police said. A Sparta woman told a cop the pot and heroin found in her car weren't hers and she didn't know how the drugs got there, police said. Officer Anthony Cirri was pulling out of the Hopatcong police department when he saw Cary Gallo, 20, of Sparta, driving while talking on her cell phone around 11 p.m. Sunday, police said. Cirri smelled a strong odor of raw marijuana when he stopped Gallo's vehicle, police said. During a further investigation, Cirri found a pipe with burned marijuana residue in it, a plastic bag with green and orange vegetation—suspected to be marijuana, another small plastic bag with marijuana in it and a cigarette box with 11 used wax folds containing heroin residue, police said. A mom called the Hopatcong police department around 7 p.m. Thursday, telling officers she believed her son's friend was involved with drugs and was parked outside her home, police said. The car had left when patrols arrived, police said, but it returned a bit later. Two juvenile occupants were outside of the car, looking around, police said. A Hopatcong man threw a bag of pot on the ground while trying to elude an officer April 20—the unofficial pot-smokers' holiday—police said. Officer James Bianculli was checking borough parks while on patrol when he saw three people in Squire Field around 11:30 p.m. Friday, police said. After he saw 22-year-old Jason Olavarria throw something, the three began jogging away, police said. When Bianculli finally stopped them, he discovered what Olavarria discarded—a bag of marijuana, police said. Manuel Figeroa, 18, was carrying a 24-ounce can of Keystone Ice beer, police said. United State Postal Service inspectors arrived at the Hopatcong Police Department with a package their K-9 dog identified as marijuana Tuesday, police said. The package was to be delivered to the Coolidge Trail home of 33-year-old Jason Ruggiero, police said. With Hopatcong police officers waiting nearby, a U.S. Postal Inspector delivered the package, police said. Ruggiero signed for the package, police said. A Hopatcong man had pot in the Villa Nova parking lot, police said. Officer Gerald Mancuso saw an empty vehicle parked at Liquor Factory at about 1:12 a.m. Thursday, police said. A Hopatcong man overdosed on heroin and had pot nearby, police said. Officer Christopher Lotito responded to an Alfred Way home on a report of an overdose at 9 p.m. Thursday, police said. Lotito found Wolf Schinzil Jr., 20, slumped over, police said. When Lotito woke Schinzil up, he found that he had injected two bags on heroin, police said. The needle and a small metal pill container holding marijuana was also in the room, police said. Schinzil was taken to the hospital, police said. When he was released he was charged with being under the influence of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and a hypodermic syringe, police said. Officer David Kraus pulled over 26-year-old Daniel Floyd of Hopatcong for driving with a rear light out at 11:52 p.m. Friday at the Lakeside Boulevard-Brooklyn Mountain Road intersection, police said.
