Valerie,
I think more people would become members and join if you hosted meetings at times when most people could attend. I have mentioned this to Chief Swanson and Mayor in the past. Can you please suggest it at your next meeting... How about holding a meeting at 630 pm or 7pm? Anything earlier than that is difficult for the average working family to get to.

ReplyPosting the police blotter in the Patch is important information and should be done! If you break the law.. be prepared to put embarassment and shame upon your family. Sorry, it's been that way for as long as news has been published!
The part about arresting the addicts and dealers is the easy part. Hopatcong Police and the Drug Task Forces are doing this.. DAILY. They conduct searches when appropriate and make arrests when warrants are issued. It is NOT the fault of the Hopatcong Police. THEY DO NOT LOOK THE OTHER WAY. The problem is the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office. Mr. Weaver and his Team are constantly plead bargaining these cases down to nothing more than misdemeanors equivalent to jay walking. We need to get the message to the SUSSEX COUNTY PROSECUTOR TO Make these arrests STICK. Demand Maximum Penalties for these types of crimes. Here is his name and website and contact info for Mr. Weaver. Please feel free to write an IMPACT letter to him directly and tell him about your experiences and how the Heroin Dealing and Using affects YOU and Your Family directly. Please stop blaming our Police..... Support them. Keep calling them when you see something... Take license plates down and report suspicous behaviors. Take a stand in this community and you can make a difference! http://www.sussex.nj.us/Cit-e-Access/webpage.cfm?TID=7&TPID=11623 -

When your child has heroin in there hand, you all may feel differently. HPD is VERY AWARE of who is dealing in this town, and who is bringing it in this town. Who is using regularly and occassionally. Our police department is extremely keen on what is going on in this town. However, due to the laws that protect the criminals, their hands are tied.... The problem lies with in Sussex County Prosecutors Office. They need to STOP plea dealing down the arrests the HP is presenting them and start taking a HARD LINE on these criminals. How bout a CAMPAIGN in this County that fines and penalties are Doubled if you get caught with drugs? Like they do on the roads where there is construction workers? I think our CHILDREN are equally important as them?
